The accompaniment to Erin Louise Clancy’s richly layered Iris Gaiwan, these small sipping cups are decorated with the exuberant hand and coloring as their tea brewing counterpart.

A near opaque layer of porcelain slip over stoneware clay provides a brightening backdrop to these saturated colors, complimented with a glossy forest green glaze on the interior of the gaiwan and lid. Vibrant blossoms spring to life atop strokes of dark green, unfurling like the beards and sepals of an iris. Each piece feels like a celebration of winter colors, offering a cheering start to any tea brewing session

Each piece is individually thrown on the potter's wheel from a mix of dark stoneware clays. Delicately trimmed feet elevate the cup and a gently flared rim follows the natural contours of your lips.

It is not unusual to have areas of thicker glazing, and or colorations that reflect the different interactions between the mineral content of the clay body and glaze. Each cup is hand made and unique, and may not be identical to the photographed item. Each will be as beautiful.
