There is an impressive gravity to the work of Taiwanese potter, Zhang Hao Yan, yet his mastery and materiality always stop shy of sobriety. Each of his pieces exudes an undeniable playfulness often displayed via the lines and profiles of each vessel, creating personality through form.

Thrown from soft, porcelain-white clay, this tea server is thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter’s wheel. Undulations in color, texture, and iridescence are the result of ash and flame as they traveled along channels of air in through the wood burning chamber of the kiln and up through the chimney. Each pieces underwent more than 5 days in this state, building up the rich surface of the pot.

This server is one of a kind.
