There is an impressive gravity to the work of Taiwanese potter, Zhang Hao Yan, yet his mastery and materiality always stop shy of sobriety. Each of his pieces exudes an undeniable playfulness often displayed via the lines and profiles of each vessel, creating personality through form.
Of grog-rich stoneware clay, this pear-shaped teapot is thrown and trimmed by hand on the potter’s wheel. Undulations in color, texture, and iridescence are the result of ash and flame as they traveled along channels of air in through the wood burning chamber of the kiln and up through the chimney. Each pieces underwent more than 5 days in this state, building up the rich surface of the pot.
Although the interior of this pot is unglazed, stoneware is not highly porous, and is appropriate for use with all tea types.
This teapot is one of a kind.
Usage and care: To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub. We do not recommend use of detergent.
