Snow Shino
Snow Shino
This tea bowl from ceramicist Zhang Yun Cheng is thrown with a textured stoneware and fired in gas reduction kiln. A soft coating of shino glaze covers this piece, the firing process drawing forth its natural penchant for crazing as seen in the tiny crackles that cover the surface of the vessel, giving way to faint brushstrokes of cobalt oxide the artist drew across the clay prior to glazing.
This piece received extra attention from Yun Cheng, who seasoned the bowl with tea for over a week, further enunciating the glaze’s natural crazing, and creating a subtle iridescence that will continue to develop with time and use.
Pictured is one in a series of four. Individual pieces vary slightly in size and tone, a hallmark of this glazing method, and hand-made work. Please note that while we cannot guarantee that the one we ship is exactly as pictured, what you will receive will be as beautiful.
Usage and care: To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub with mild detergent.
