Hand-formed・Wood, soda-fired porcelain ・140ml

This “porcelain study” pot is one of three pieces crafted in fine Japanese porcelain. It exhibits a grace and delicacy that stands in stark contrast to the rusticity of its wood-fired origins.

A thick layer of ash glaze coats the lid and upper body of this pot. To achieve the unique glazing, the ceramicist sprayed soda into the kiln during firing. The resulting vapor clung to the ceramic surface of each piece, and vitrified to form the grey to sage spectrum on the upper surfaces of the pot. The bottom surface is a brilliant orange, resulting from flame flashes across the exposed surface of the pot.

Graceful spout and throat matched to round body and finial. Seven outlets arranged in a hexagonal pattern for drainage. This tea pot has an unglazed porcelain interior. Fired in a wood-burning kiln for five days.

Usage and care: Hand-wash with water only.

Approximate dimensions: 75mm tall, 70mm diameter
