Patina Teapot
Patina Teapot
Unglazed stoneware・Wood-fired
Fired in a wood kiln over the course of five days, this elegant teapot displays a range of metallic patinas so unique to this firing technique. From a warm, shining bronze, the surface becomes increasingly matte as it moves up the pot, culminating in dark, granite-like spotting of browns and blacks. The pot is crowned by a hand-built finial, its irregular shape causing a visual break in this otherwise perfectly symmetrical form.
This teapot uniquely features two holes in the lid, allow air from inside the pot to more efficiently displace the tea as it exits the spout. Inside, a hand-built honeycomb filter keeps the tea leaves from escaping.
Usage and care: Unglazed wood-fired pieces will season very slowly over time, though limited porosity allows for use of different tea types. Exterior of the teapot will deepen in color and develop a rich luster with use. Hand-wash only without soap or detergent.
