Ochre Server
Ochre Server
In the second series of work from budding Taiwanese potter Zhang Hao Yan, the artist eschews the traditions of a wood fired kiln. Instead, Zhang opts for an experimental approach to firing, alternatively incorporating ash into his glaze recipes and dusting the exterior of a form with powdered wood ash while the glaze has yet to dry. Fired to cone 10 in a traditional gas kiln, the artist manages to capture the same spirit and fluctuating nature of atmospherically fired stoneware, with varied surface texture, undulating colors, and unexpected beauty marks in the glaze work.
These tea servers are hand thrown and trimmed on the potter’s wheel, and feature an expertly formed spout allowing for a clean pouring experience. High-fired stoneware is suitable for use with all tea types.
Pictured is one in a series. Individual pieces vary somewhat in size and tone, a hallmark of this glazing method, and all hand made work. Please note that while we cannot guarantee that the one we ship is exactly as pictured, what you will receive will be as beautiful.
