This tea bowl from ceramicist Zhang Yun Cheng is thrown with a textured stoneware and fired in a wood-burning kiln for five days. No glaze is used on this vessel - instead, a luminous surface of ash and carbon cover the piece, charting the patterns they traveled through the kiln. In turn, this enhances the rusticity of the bowl’s texture, drawing out grog and flecks of iron oxide in the clay and elevating tactile elements to the surface of the form.

This piece received extra attention from the artist, who seasoned the bowl with tea for over a week, creating a subtle iridescence that will continue to develop with time and use.

Pictured is one in a series of three. Individual pieces vary slightly in size and tone, a hallmark of wood-fired and hand-made work. Please note that while we cannot guarantee that the one we ship is exactly as pictured, what you will receive will be as beautiful.

Usage and care: To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub with mild detergent.
