Glazed stoneware・Iron oxide・5 day wood-fired
This "lichen” pot features a thick exterior glaze over wood-fired stoneware. The ceramicist mixed a small amount of iron oxide particles into the Taiwanese clay body. The interior is unglazed. The gray and sage toned glaze reaches down halfway to the base of the pot, ending with an organic free-flowing edge that contrasts dramatically with burnished metallic tones of the raw clay. The iron oxide particles in the clay body express as dark flecks on the exterior surface of the teapot, and on the unglazed interior.
The lid on this pot is covered in both glaze and vitrified fly ash. Delicate handle, spout, and throat gives the pot an incredible lightness of being. The glazed portion of the pot has a beautiful crackle that will deepen in color with use. Fired in a wood-burning kiln for five days.
Usage and care: Hand-wash with water only.
