Precision and spontaneity are at odds in the work of Huang Li Chia’s ceramic work, thrown from a gravity defying stoneware clay. From her studio in South Eastern Taiwan, shared with her woodworking partner, the artist considers functionality, expression, and beauty as she creates pieces pared back to reveal each element at its most foundational, in an incredibly successful line of teaware.

Like an autumn leaf, curled and drying in the wind, the edges of this delicate tea server seem to fold in on themselves organically, with nary a finger of human intervention. The artists choice of matte engobe and interior glaze serve to reiterate this phenomenon, natural textures that crackle with the crispness of fall. These qualities are belied only in the servers functionality, each pour testament to Chia’s hand, with a steady, clean pour from server to waiting cup.

Usage and care: To clean between uses, simply rinse the server with hot water and air dry.
