Water Bowl, #1
Water Bowl, #1
Precision and spontaneity are at odds in the work of Huang Li Chia’s ceramic work, thrown from stoneware clay. From her studio in South Eastern Taiwan, shared with her woodworking partner, the artist considers functionality, expression, and beauty as she creates pieces pared back to reveal each element at its most foundational, in an incredibly successful line of teaware.
This elegant water bowl is an integral component of our gong fu tea brewing routine. Excess liquid from preheating cups, server, and teapot are decanted into this vessel, along with spent leaves as you transition from tea to tea. In form, the bowl mirrors the ripples in the water, with a lively rim and undulating texture, highlighted in the raw stoneware exterior a swoops of translucent matte slip. The interior is lined with a textural glaze, and freckled with natural spots of iron.
This tea bowl is one of its kind.
Usage and care: To clean between uses, simply rinse the bowl with hot water and air dry.
