Glazed stoneware・Wood-fired
From Liao Guo Hua’s personal archive come sixteen masterful teapots that together chart the breadth and variation of two decades of atmospheric firings in the artist’s remote wood kiln.
The mottled surface of this pot reads like the thumbprints still visible in a lost wax casting. A patina of bronze, iron, and dusky ore play across the surface of the form, cataloguing the flow of air and ash across the kiln. Iron-rich grog mixed into the clay body rises to the surface, expressing in a tactile constellation. A tightly fitting lid, glazed interior, and honeycombed filter beneath the spout allow for quick, clean pouring.
With use, oils from tea will create a deepened color and luster on this pot's glazed surface. Signed by the artist.
Usage and care: This teapot is suit able for use with all tea types. Simply rinse between uses, or hand-wash without soap or detergent.
