A Pair of Small Facet Cups
A Pair of Small Facet Cups
Unglazed stoneware・Knife-cut・Wood-fired
These dramatically faceted cups from ceramicist Zhang Yun Cheng are first thrown on a wheel, then knife-cut and smoothed by hand. The resulting appearance is jewel-like, with a subtle swirl pattern on the exterior.
Cups are crafted of stoneware. They enter the kiln unglazed, but emerged with a unique “glaze” of vitrified fly ash on the exposed surfaces. The cups have also been seasoned by the ceramicist, giving each an iridescent shimmer from residual tea oils.
* Cups are sold in pairs. We will do our best to find a matching pair. However, please take note that each cup can be slightly different in color tone and texture. It is not unusual to have areas of thicker ash glazing, and/or colorations that reflect the different interactions between the mineral content of the clay body and fly ash glaze. Each cup is different, and may not be identical to the photographed item.
