Medium Shino Chawan
Medium Shino Chawan
Undulating lines circle the body of this stoneware teabowl, a map of the artist hands as he pulled the clay upwards on the potters wheel. Pillowy white shino glaze covers the form, crackling and crazing in webs deeply seasoned with tea. This seasoning adds contrast to these lines and a luminosity to the surface of the form, a slight iridescence that catches reflected light. Freckles cobalt oxide rise through the glaze, forming the silhouette of a lone mountain peak.
