Cobalt + Shino Cup
Cobalt + Shino Cup
Classic lines slope out and up on these delicate tea cups from Taiwanese master potter, Zhang Yun Cheng, a unique and embellished version of our iconic Song Cups. Webs of crazing across the shino glaze are seasoned by the artist by submerging and the vessels in darkly brewed tea. This seasoning adds contrast to the lines and a luminosity to the surface of the form, a gentle iridescence that catches reflected light. Subtle freckles of iron from the clay body, and a ring of cobalt oxide keep the eye in motion across the form, highlighting the rhythm of each hand thrown piece.
Pictured is one in a series of similar pieces. Slight variations are possible from piece to piece, a hallmark of hand-made pottery. The piece you receive may vary slightly from the photographed item.
