Steamed Bao Teapot
Steamed Bao Teapot
Stoneware・Celadon
This delightful new series from artist Liao Guo Hua features both a server and teapot for a full tea service, and is a stunning example of the artist’s skills in simplicity and restraint.
These small, round teapots feature classic proportions- a circular body, unassuming finial and spout, and a gently lobed handle at the back. Subtle crazing, and scattered “beauty spots”- tiny freckles that rise from this iron-rich clay body- create a visual break in the otherwise uniform glaze. Fired to cone 10 in a gas kiln, these creamy white celadon teapots remind us of perfectly packed snowballs or the soft skin of steamed bao.
Ten drainage holes and an expertly crafted spout allow for easy pouring.
Usage and care: Glazed both inside and out, these teapots are suitable for use with all tea types. Simply rinse between uses, or hand wash with a mild detergent.
*Please take note that each pot can be slightly different in color tone, texture, size, and shape. It is not unusual to have areas of thicker glazing, and or colorations that reflect the different interactions between the mineral content of the clay body and glaze. Each teapot is hand made and unique, and may not be identical to the photographed item.
