Red tea from Yunnan, China・March 2021・滇紅,一九五八・Organic
Fifty Eight is a classic Yunnan red tea, crafted from organically grown, gold-tipped tea leaves that produce tea with extraordinary texture and sweetness.
The Chinese province of Yunnan is alternatively called Dian, and classic reds from the region are called dian hong. This tea’s name references 1958, the year that Yunnan’s dian hong first gained international repute - and this tea is a classic dian hong in every sense.
The source garden is located in Fengqing County, in western Yunnan Province. Unlike most landscaped tea gardens of perfectly manicured bushes in tidy rows, this garden consists of a large extended grove of low trees, many of which are over 60 years old. Called da ye zhong, or “large leaf variety,” these trees are indigenous to this part of Yunnan.
Our Fifty Eight was picked by hand in mid-March 2021. The leaves were withered indoors with ample airflow, then allowed to gently oxidize before being flattened and pan roasted. The resulting tea is rich, malty, smooth and sweet.
Brew: 5 grams・150 ml・200° F・2 min
This tea is surprisingly best brewed at lower temperatures than the other reds in our collection. Follow our recommended temperature, and increase steep time for a stronger brew.
Packaging Guide
Our teas come in your choice of resealable pouches or gift canisters—both are fully recyclable! Depending on the size of the tea leaves, our canisters can accommodate anywhere from 30g – 240g of loose tea. Plus, they make great gifts. |
