Banded Cup, Small
Banded Cup, Small
Rich, ribbed lines circle the body of these stoneware teacups, a map of the artist hands as he pulled the clay upwards on the potters wheel. Pillowy white shino glaze covers the form, crackling and crazing in webs deeply seasoned with tea. This seasoning adds contrast to these lines and a luminosity to the surface of the form, a slight iridescence that catches reflected light. Freckles of iron from the clay body, and dabs of oxide on the rim keep the eye in motion across the form, highlighting the rhythm of the pot’s silhouette.
