Stoneware・Shino・Cobalt
Seemingly in motion, this pot’s round body, finial, and handle are mirrored in the application of cobalt oxide and shino glaze that circumvent the form. A slight crackle, or crazing of the glaze, provides depth and nuance to the surface, a quality that will evolve over time with repeated use. Inside the pot, a thin application of tenmoku brown seals the sand-hued stoneware, and an expertly crafted ball filter offers an easy, dripless pouring experience.
These teapots, from Taiwanese potter Zhang Yun Cheng, are lovely paired with the artist’s matching cups, available in a tall and short profile.
Pictured is one in a series of similar pieces. Slight variations are possible from piece to piece, a hallmark of hand-made pottery.
Usage and care: The interior of each pot is glazed, and may be used with all tea types. To wash, simply rinse between uses or hand scrub with mild detergent.
